“I am happy that Cheteshwar Pujara is not here.” Josh Hazlewood jokes ahead of BGT 2024-25

Josh Hazlewood dismissed Pujara six times in test cricket.

Senior Australia Pacer Josh Hazlewood expressed great relief that he will not have to face Cheteshwar Pujara in the upcoming match. Border-Gavaskar Cup (BGT) 2024-25.

BGT 2024-25 will kick off in Perth on 22 November. This will be the first time the two teams have faced each other in a five-match test series since the 1991/92 series.

India have won the last two test series in Australia and Pujara was one of the biggest contributors to these victories. In these two trips, Pujara scored 792 runs at an average of 52, including three centuries and four fifties in eight tests.

As important as his runs were, the amount of balls he faced and the time he spent on the field to tire out the Australian pacers were equally important. Pujara faced a total of 2186 balls in the two series and frustrated Australia’s pacers.

However, he is no longer part of the Indian test squad. And Hazlewood is relishing the prospect of not facing Pujara in the next five-Test series.

“I am happy that Cheteshwar Pujara is not here. Obviously he is someone who spends time batting, puts in a lot of time and makes sure you win his wicket every time. He did really well in Australia in the previous tours.” Hazlewood said at the press conference.

Shubman Gill replaced Pujara at number 3 as the master batsman’s form dipped.

“So we always have first-class young players coming into the team. There is a lot of pressure to perform in the Indian team. While there are many players who consistently play at the top, the overall playing XI is a mix of incredible players. So it doesn’t really matter, they’re all big players.” Hazlewood added.

However, Gill will miss the Perth test due to a thumb injury.
