There is no relegation clause in Pep Guardiola’s new Manchester City contract – The Irish Times

Pep Guardiolasigned a new 1-year contract with Manchester City Does not contain a break clause in case the club is relegated Premier League if found guilty of financial irregularities by an independent commission.

The club is defending itself against more than 100 accusations brought by the Premier League. City deny all allegations. If the champions are found guilty, one of the possible sanctions could be relegation from the league, depending on the severity of the decision.

Guardiola has signed new contracts extending his tenure at the club until the summer of 2026, but it is understood he has no agreement to leave before that date if City lose their top-flight status.

Guardiola has previously said he would enjoy managing City in the lower league if pushed. A year ago the 53-year-old was asked if he would consider his position if City were found guilty and relegated. “Good question,” he replied. “I will answer when I receive the sentence.

“You question us as if we were punished. And right now we are innocent until proven guilty. I know the public wants this. I know, I feel it. I will wait. Wait and see, we will come here and explain after the sentence is finished.

“But I will definitely not think that my future depends on whether I am here (Premier League) or in League One. Absolutely. If we stay in League One, we have a better chance of staying than we do in the Champions League.”

Guardiola has led City to six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, the Champions League and the Club World Cup since taking over in 2016. –Guardian
