Here’s how much snow to expect in Southeast Michigan over the next 24 hours

Detroit – The first snowfall of the season is approaching Southeast Michigan, but how much snow should you actually expect in the next 24 hours?

A few flakes of snow may be visible in parts of the region after sunset Wednesday, but the majority of the snow will arrive early Thursday morning.

It is expected to start around 3-4 a.m. Thursday morning and last through the morning commute. There isn’t much snow expected to remain on the ground, although it is likely to affect visibility and make roads slippery.

Local 4 meteorologist Ashlee Baracy said this snowfall will be mostly a traffic event.

How much profit will we get?

Areas west of US 23 are at the higher end of possible snow totals. There is a possibility of up to a centimeter of snow remaining in some spots.

Jackson and Flint could get within half an inch at most.

But this won’t be snow piling up east of US 23. It may be dusty for parts of the day on Thursday, but you won’t need to get out your shovels.

When you wake up on Friday morning, you probably won’t see any more snow.

Why no savings?

The 4Warn Weather team doesn’t expect accumulation with surface and road temperatures still in the 40s.

The ground is not frozen yet.

So this wet snow will melt quickly and cause more trouble on the roads than a major weather event.

timeline

Parts of Southeast Michigan may see a few flakes of snow Wednesday evening, but it will be very isolated.

More scattered snowfall will become widespread around 03.00-04.00 on Thursday and will continue until noon.

The snow should be over by noon. Only the messy pockets will be rolled and not dense.

Not a significant snowfall

You’ll need to set your alarm clock a little earlier on Thursday due to the hassle of the morning commute, but the 4Warn Weather team isn’t expecting any major storms, though.

As it is the first snowfall of the season, driving conditions will be poor.

Wind chills will be in the 20s. More rain is expected on Friday, and conditions are mostly dry for the weekend as highs remain in the 40s.
