One person died after car crashed into utility pole on US-17 alternate

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred approximately three miles north of Summerville.

Sergeant. Tyler Tidwell said a car was traveling northbound on the US-17 alternate route near Clubhouse Road at approximately 11:35 Saturday night, ran off the road to the left, then to the right, struck a ditch and then hit a utility pole.

He said the driver of the 2001 GMC Yukon was the only person in the car and died at the scene.

The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office has not yet identified the victim.
