PM Modi likely to launch health insurance for senior citizens under Ayushman Bharat next week – Money News

Prime Minister Narendra Modi may launch a major expansion of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) on October 29 and provide health insurance to all citizens aged 70 and above, irrespective of their income status, a PTI report was quoted as saying. An official source says this. This initiative aims to benefit nearly six crore senior citizens in 4.5 crore households.

The expanded scheme will offer free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh at any of the 29,648 hospitals under AB-PMJAY, including 12,696 private hospitals. To facilitate this, eligible persons must register on the PMJAY portal or the Ayushman app. Those who already have an Ayushman card will have to re-apply and complete their eKYC to get a new card.

Senior citizens aged 70 years and above belonging to families currently covered by AB PM-JAY will get an additional additional cover of Rs 5 lakh per annum. Others in the same age group will get coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per annum on a family basis.

Additionally, the U-WIN portal, developed to keep a digital record of routine vaccinations, will be officially launched on the same day. This platform, a replica of the COVID-19 vaccine management system Co-WIN, is designed to keep a permanent digital record of vaccinations for pregnant women and children from birth to 17 years of age under the Universal Immunization Programme.

“The U-WIN platform will help create a comprehensive vaccination registry and ensure that all vaccinations are documented and easily accessible,” the source further said.

The EU PM-JAY program is currently operational in 33 states and Union territories excluding Delhi, Odisha and West Bengal. However, citizens aged 70 and above can apply for the program based on their Aadhar cards.
