9 DC Area Türkiye Trot Races on Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving is just a week away, which means it’s time to lace up your running shoes for the annual Türkiye Trot races around the DMV. Here you can wear a turkey costume, bring the pup, run with the kids and more. All races are on Thursday, November 28.

D.C.

1325 Pennsylvania Avenue, Northwest

The 23rd annual SOME (So Others Might Eat) run kicks off at Freedom Plaza, where runners can listen to some music before heading down Pennsylvania Avenue. Kids 10 and under can run the one-mile Little Türkiye Race or participate in a 5K run for adults; Both can be temporary or indefinite. Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m., the one-mile ride begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the 5K at 8:30 a.m. Be sure to wear your best turkey costume for a contest at 9:30 a.m., then attend the free festival at Freedom Plaza at 11 a.m. If you can’t make it, runners can complete the 5K virtually by November 30. Record in person it’s $35 for the single miler and $65 for the 5K.

Alice B. McCullough Field, Montgomery and Eighth sts., Laurel

Join other trotters for a 5K or single-mile run starting at 8 a.m. with a pre-race warm-up and post-race celebration. The event will include photo booth and costume contests. Record It starts at $54.

Arnold, Baltimore City, Bel Air, Ellicott City, Towson and Westminster

With six race locations in central Maryland, the Y’s trots welcome kids and dogs alike. Record The price is $48.70 and includes a t-shirt.

318 Sixth Avenue, Eastport

Go for a run in downtown Annapolis starting at 9 a.m.; Dogs, strollers and children are welcome. Wear your best turkey outfit and sip light refreshments to win a prize. Record online and range from $10 to $45. Shirts can be purchased for an additional $17.

Virginia

414 N. Fillmore St., Arlington

Arlington’s annual 5K race starts at 8 a.m. near Lyon Park Community Center. Runners can get a colorful t-shirt or upgrade to a long-sleeve performance shirt for an additional $20. This year’s new trail passes through Columbia Gardens Cemetery before returning to the Ashton Heights neighborhood. you can register Through November 24, fares start at $25 for children ages 6 to 17 and $50 for adults.

George Washington Middle School, 1005 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria

Bring the whole family (yes, furry friends included) for this run in Del Ray. The race will start at 9 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m. and $2,000 will be shared among the top three finishers in each category. Record Open until 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving, prices range from $10 to $40 (shirts are an additional $15). Organizers will be collecting non-perishable food donations for LIVE! during the race.

South Lakes High School, 11400 South Lakes Dr., Reston

Run virtually or in person around Audubon Lake in this 5K or mile. Record It starts at $35. The races will start at 08.00 and 08.05 in the morning respectively.

9330 Pentland Place, Fairfax

Run four miles through the community of Mantua with spectators cheering along the route. Runners and walkers are encouraged to arrive early, as last year’s race drew almost 2,000 participants. The race starts at 9 am. Record The price is $45 and includes a T-shirt.

400 Center St. S., Vienna

Join the James Madison High School Marching Band and Vienna Volunteer Fire Department at 8 a.m. for a 5K, 10K or a fun run for kids. After running through Vienna, the trotters finish at the finish line festival with music, prizes and refreshments. Record $10 for kids’ run; $45 for 5K; and $50 for 10K.
