One dead in violent crash west of Le Mars, Iowa

PLYMOUTH COUNTY, Iowa (KTIV) – One person died in a crash Wednesday night.

According to the Plymouth County, Iowa Sheriff’s Office, just after 7:20 p.m., Nov. 20, they received a call regarding a possible field fire near 160th Street and Impala Boulevard west of Le Mars.

When deputies arrived, they found a pickup truck completely engulfed in flames. It was determined that the driver died during the rescue efforts.

In the preliminary investigation of the accident, it was determined that the driver left the road and drove for a while and then got stuck on an embankment. The vehicle caught fire, and the driver could not escape.

The only person in the vehicle was the driver. Their remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny, Iowa.

While the investigation into the accident continues, the identity of the driver has not been disclosed.

Le Mars Fire Rescue and the Plymouth County Medical Examiner assisted the Plymouth County Sheriff.
