Winn Parish mother says teacher sent explicit messages to daughter

WINN PARISH, La. (HEART) – A Winnfield mother is speaking out disappointed and heartbroken after learning her teenage daughter received inappropriate text messages from a school employee.

“There were a lot of inappropriate text messages saying all he did was violate school rules and made a bad decision. If that was the case, he made a lot of bad decisions,” said the victim’s mother, Katrina Henson. “This means sending big-eyed emojis like ‘what are you wearing, what are you doing’ and telling her how nice her jeans are.”

What made the situation even more complicated, Henson said, was that the man who sent the messages was not only the girl’s teacher and coach, but also the stepfather of the girl’s boyfriend.

“There were numerous text messages trying to get her to leave the house, sneak out of the house, and tell me she was with her boyfriend, who was her stepson,” Henson said.

The messages were reported to school officials and the district attorney, but the man was allowed to resign quietly.

“It was a slap in the face, and I told him it was a slap in the face to me and my daughter,” Henson said.

Despite the mother’s repeated calls for accountability, no criminal charges were filed.

“He literally told me that the only thing he thought this guy was guilty of was making a bad decision and violating school rules,” Henson said.

The district attorney and the Winn County School Board declined to comment on the case, and Henson said his questions remained unanswered. Adding to her frustration, the man was rehired by another school district just months before his daughter graduated in May.

Henson is now pushing for accountability and a change in the way such cases are handled, and he hopes his fight will protect other students in the future.

“I absolutely do not trust the school administration in Winn Parish because not only did you protect my child, but what about other people’s children? Who’s next?” he asked. “What about the next young girl who won’t speak up, and it may have already happened to someone else’s child?”

For now, the family faces more questions than answers, but continues to stand up for what is right.
