Man arrested for allegedly stealing Bobcat skid steer loader and flatbed trailer

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The Sparks Police Department arrested a man on charges of stealing a Bobcat skid steer, as well as a flatbed trailer, from a construction site north of Reno.

On Nov. 1, officers with the Sparks Police Department were called to a construction site just east of Nugget Casino after employees reported the theft of a 2022 Bobcat skid steer loader. The bobcat was valued at $72,000.

Detectives were able to identify the suspect and located the skid steer on a flatbed trailer in a residential area northwest of Reno. The trailer was also found to have been stolen from a business in Sparks on or around the same day as the theft of the Bobcat.

On Nov. 11, officers with the Reno Police Department unknowingly conducted a traffic stop on the same suspect. After initially stopping, he refused to cooperate and fled from officers in his vehicle.

Then on November 20, detectives narrowed their search to a business complex in Fallon and eventually took the suspect into custody at Dotty’s Casino.

The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Jason Pineda. Pineda was charged with grand theft auto, two counts of possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit grand theft auto, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit grand larceny, criminal evading, hindering and resisting arrest, and suspended registration.
