3 Reasons Why Kansas Knocked Out No. 16 Colorado in Epic Fashion

kansas football You may not have had the smoothest season, but don’t sleep as the Jayhawks head into Saturday’s matchup with No. 16 Colorado.

With some of the best cornerbacks in the game, a formidable defensive line and a ground game that can wear down opponents, Kansas has all the ingredients to pull off an upset.

Let’s explain why the Jayhawks were able to come out on top.

Mello Dotson

If you’re looking for a way to slow down a player like Travis Hunter, Kansas’ elite cornerback duo has it.

Kansas defensive coordinator Brian Borland will likely put together some man-to-man and zone looks to keep Colorado guessing.

Bryant and Dotson are good enough physically to play the field and force Hunter into tight spots, and if Colorado has to lean on their other weapons, Kansas wins this battle.

Here’s the deal: Colorado’s offensive line has struggled all year. They gave up 31 sacks and Shedeur Sanders was under pressure nearly every game. Kansas’ defensive front could benefit from this.

Dean Miller, the Jayhawks’ top pass rusher, has been a force off the bench. Adding big bodies like DJ Withers to the interior, Kansas has a front end that can tighten the pocket, push Sanders out and force him into rushing throws.

Look for Kansas to offer some creative blitz packages as well.

Considering the way Colorado’s line has struggled to pick up stunts and late rushes, this could be a game where the Kansas defense racks up multiple sacks and forces turnovers.

Devin Neal

One of the best ways to beat an explosive offense? Keep them off the field. Kansas has the perfect recipe for this with its grind approach.

Devin Neal has been a hard worker all year and is the type of back who can wear down a defense in four quarters. Add in point guard Jalon Daniels, who is as dangerous with his legs as his arm, and you have a rushing attack that Colorado will have a hard time stopping.

Expect Kansas to lean on its elite offensive line, led by Bryce Foster, to open up running lanes.

The Jayhawks’ ability to stay ahead of the chains and control the clock could frustrate Colorado’s defense and limit Sanders and Hunter’s opportunities to make plays on offense.

Let’s not forget the home advantage. Arrowhead Stadium will be rocking Saturday with the Jayhawks finally gaining some momentum and Deion Sanders coming to town, and that energy could give Kansas the boost it needs to face a ranked opponent.

If the crowd continues to be loud and the Jayhawks feed off of it, it will be difficult for Colorado to adjust.

With a locked-down defense of Bryant and Dotson, a defensive front that can get after Sanders, and a ground game that can control the tempo, the Jayhawks have all the tools to knock off Colorado in epic fashion.
