Teacher and husband attack school resource officer during meeting about son’s behavior

DELTONA, Fla. (WKRC) – A couple was arrested Tuesday morning after authorities say they assaulted the school resource officer during a meeting about their son’s behavior.

According to FOX35, elementary school teacher Dagmarie Aponte and her husband, Jorge Rivera, were attending the meeting with the resource officer because their son was accused of pushing a girl at school on Monday.

Volusia Sheriff uploads body camera footage to Instagram and including multiple users Police Body Camera Videos uploaded the footage to YouTube.

Police said Rivera became angry during the meeting and was asked to leave. Later in the hallway, Aponte allegedly pushed the resource officer against the wall, while Rivera punched him in the head, knocking him to the ground, according to FOX35.

Rivera then stole the resource officer’s stun gun, but the officer pulled out his firearm and forced Rivera to drop the weapon. The school resource officer was hospitalized for concussion symptoms.

Both parents faced multiple charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer. Rivera also faced armed robbery, grand larceny and hate crime enhancement charges for allegedly using a derogatory slur during the attack.

Aponte was released from jail on bail Tuesday night. Rivera remains in custody at the Volusia County Jail.
