Five reasons to choose an EV over an IYM for your next car purchase

Five reasons to choose an EV over an IYM for your next car purchase

Whether you’re a true believer or not, there’s no denying that the electric vehicle revolution has already begun. Battery Electric Vehicles, or BEVs, are the next evolutionary step in mobility, and there are many reasons to choose a battery electric vehicle over one powered by an internal combustion engine.

Starting with the fact that…

EVs outperform ICE vehicles

Whether direct acceleration from a standstill or rolling, a battery electric vehicle outperforms any Direct Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) counterpart when it comes to linear performance. In fact, the instantaneous nature of a BEV’s torque delivery means you don’t need to downshift to take advantage of peak torque. Any point in the EV’s rev band allows for push-and-go performance. This allows BEVs to have a smoother power delivery that even high-end ICE vehicles with dual-clutch transmissions cannot match.

Electric vehicles also offer a much quieter and smoother driving and driving experience without levels of vehicle noise permeating the cabin. This allows drivers to focus better on the road and passengers to have a calmer driving experience.

Electric vehicles are cheaper to maintain

One of the strongest points in favor of electric mobility is that it is much cheaper to maintain. This is because electric vehicles have far fewer moving parts, unlike internal combustion engines, which rely on various components such as spark plugs, timing belts, gaskets and cylinder heads that are subject to wear and tear due to heat and friction. They also do not require constant renewal of fluids such as transmission oil and frequent oil changes.

EVs also introduce new technology in the form of regenerative braking, which not only helps recover lost kinetic energy but also puts less strain on the car’s actual brakes. On average, service intervals for an EV are twice as long as for vehicles with ICE.

EVs are much more reliable

Fewer moving parts also means fewer failures. The simple and straightforward structure of an EV’s powertrain essentially involves an electric battery that provides power sent to the front, rear or all four wheels via axle-mounted electric motors. The presence of regenerative braking also ensures that your brakes do not take the entire load of stopping the vehicle. Routine replacement of brake pads, tires and electric motor and your EV is ready for use. Electricity is also much cheaper than petrol or diesel, meaning you can own and operate an EV by paying only around Rs 30,000 per year for in-home charging within city limits.

EVs are greener

In addition to producing completely zero tailpipe emissions, battery electric vehicles are also much more energy efficient. Electric vehicles convert a significantly higher percentage of the energy in their batteries into motion than internal combustion engine vehicles, making them much more efficient. Electric motors in electric vehicles are approximately
85-90% of the energy comes directly from the battery. Very little energy is wasted as heat.

The energy conversion rate in vehicles with ICE is only 20-30%; This means that most of the energy from burning fuel is lost as heat in the exhaust and cooling systems. While ICE vehicles consume fuel even at idle, EVs consume almost no energy when stationary.

EVs are future-ready

All automotive manufacturers have to switch to electric. It’s just a question of when. EVs are a much more solid investment. Thanks to over-the-air updates and battery packs with fewer moving parts and long warranties, electric vehicles do not need to be replaced as early as internal combustion engine vehicles.
