Illegal immigrant child rape suspect arrested by ICE in Massachusetts

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Boston officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Deportation Operations (ERO) arrested a 20-year-old Guatemalan national accused of raping and assaulting children in Massachusetts. The suspect, identified as Selvin Alex Galvez-Mejia, was taken into custody in Springfield on Oct. 18, ICE officials said.

Galvez-Mejia is charged with two counts of aggravated rape of a child and one count of indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of 14, according to ERO Boston. Springfield District Court first arraigned him on July 18 and later released him after making this post. bail.

“Selvin Alex Galvez-Mejia is accused of horrifically victimizing a Massachusetts child and poses a significant threat to our neighborhoods,” ERO Boston Field Office Acting Director Patricia H. Hyde said in a statement. Hyde emphasized that it is crucial to prioritize public safety by apprehending and eliminating such non-citizen threats.

ICE officials stated that Galvez-Mejia illegally entered the United States from an unknown date and location without being inspected, admitted, or paroled by immigration authorities. Following his arrest on October 18, Galvez-Mejia was sent a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge.

Galvez-Mejia will remain in ERO custody until his immigration proceedings are completed.
