When Lyle Menenedez spoke to NBC Los Angeles in a prison interview in 2017, he said he tried not to imagine his life outside of prison.

“I think it would be a little torture to dwell on this,” Menendez’s older brother said, adding that he and his brother Erik were trying to stay healthy and keep their morale up. “For me, this is not the form of hope. To me, hope is keeping one’s spirit strong. To believe that his life was not a failure because it was marked by so much tragedy.”
