Two People Taken to Hospital After Crash on Hwy 60 Near Alton

Alton, Iowa – A Minnesota resident and his passenger were hospitalized following a crash on Highway 60 near Alton on Thursday, November 21.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says Oleksandr Romenkov, 38, of Orange City, was driving a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country minivan westbound on Highway 480 around 12:20 p.m.he street two miles south of Alton. They tell us Derek Tollette, 31, of Osseo, Minnesota, was driving a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe southbound on Highway 60. The investigation shows Romenkov failed to yield while crossing Highway 60 and struck Tollette.

Tollette and a passenger were transported to Orange City Regional Health System by Alton Ambulance and Orange City Ambulance.

Romenkov Chrysler sustained approximately $15,000 in damage. Tollette Hyundai sustained approximately $25,000 in damage.

Romenkov was charged with failure to obey a stop sign and failure to yield the right of way.

The sheriff’s office said the Alton Fire Department, Orange City Fire Department, Alton Ambulance Squad, Orange City Ambulance Crew, Orange City Police Department and Iowa State Patrol assisted in responding to the crash.
