Oconomowoc train crash; Car crashed, driver taken to trauma center

OCONOMOWOC, Wis.One person was injured in the Oconomowoc train crash Friday afternoon, Nov. 22.

Surveillance footage showed the moments leading up to the crash near Main and Summit. Police said the car crossed in front of the path of the Canada-Pacific freight train as it crossed Summit Boulevard on Main Street just before 1 p.m.

Authorities said the driver of the vehicle was rescued and taken to the trauma center. The extent of this person’s injuries is unclear.

“It’s kind of crazy,” said Crystal Rossey, who was near the tracks when it happened. “The jaws of life were tearing the doors apart.”

Police said two other cars were damaged as a result of the accident, but no one in those cars was injured. No one on the train was injured.

“You just hope for the best. You don’t want to see anyone get hurt,” Rossey said.

Oconomowoc police are still investigating the cause of the crash and what led to it. Western Lakes Fire District, Wisconsin State Patrol and Canadian Pacific Kansas City Police Department assisted at the scene.
