Ange Postecoglou is a dead friend walking as Spurs are left in the dirt too often.

Ange Postecoglou is a dead friend walking as Spurs are left in the dirt too often.

To be honest, we’re getting tired of Ange Postecoglou. The problem with Ange’s Spurs is they’re not very good. Not often enough anyway. They are really, very occasionally very, very good. But only occasionally. And most of the time when they don’t, it’s awful beyond words.

Crystal Palace and Ipswich won two of the 22 Premier League matches played between them this season. Both of those wins came against Spurs and neither were too tough or too grabby. Spurs were complete crap in both of those games.

Certainly, They won 3-0 at Old Trafford and beat an otherwise sensible Aston Villa 4-1 in a thrilling display of attacking verve and power. However, this season they have lost as many matches as Ipswich and more than Manchester United.

Since their ridiculous and, in retrospect, very lucky 10-game run at the start of last season, their form has famously slumped in the mid-tables and the overall trend is not high either. Spurs have lost 10 of their last 18 Premier League games and won just seven, collecting just 22 points. A table for 2024 He shows them the hair of a mosquito in front of Fulham.

Postecoglou’s Spurs are essentially a very expensive 21st century version of the Tottenham of the 1990s. Actually, to be very clear, this is not a good thing. They’re always watchable if you’re neutral, but much less watchable if you’re a true fan.

They have scored more goals than anyone else in the Premier League this season but have little to show for it. They’re Spursier than ever. Dr Tottenham is treating more patients than everand, best of all, they are not as likely to fall over their own feet as they are to have broken it, as they are in the immediate aftermath of a performance or result that gave you a completely wrong impression. Spurs’ last three home games have included wins against Manchester City and Aston Villa and defeat against Ipswich.

We cannot help but say that they have completed and perfected Spursiness, but we do not want to be slaves to this luck. Save that for the next few weeks after winning at the Etihad and losing at home to Fulham.

We would be very surprised if Ange Postecoglou is still Tottenham manager a year from now and we wouldn’t expect her to survive this season. As history has told us over and over again, when his hopes are dashed in cup competitions, it will soon be the case that he is likely to become a dead friend walking.

Later he will be replaced by someone much more sensible but also much more boring. The Premier League will probably be poorer for his departure and Spurs will be no better. So, if you still can, enjoy it while you can.
