Las Vegas GP: Williams’ Franco Colapinto will undergo medical check-up after qualifying crash

Franco Colapinto’s entry into the Las Vegas Grand Prix will require a medical examination ahead of Saturday evening’s race after suffering a 50G blow in qualifying.

Colapinto crashed heavily in the second quarter after hitting the wall on the inside of Turn 16, which threw his car into the outside barrier at a tight angle.

The impact was so great that it forced the concrete barrier out of place; The session had to be suspended while it was repaired and debris was removed from Colapinto’s wrecked car.

Although Colapinto managed to survive the crash, Williams confirmed that he would need to undergo a medical check-up before being cleared to race.

“During qualifying, Franco suffered a significant impact above 50G, which required a medical check-up,” Williams said in a statement. The statement was included. “An impact of this magnitude is clearly significant and severe and will need to be re-evaluated tomorrow before we know whether he is fit to race.”

“The only thing that matters is Franco’s health and other than that we are happy he is doing well. We will provide further updates as we can.”

The crash comes just three weeks after Williams suffered millions of dollars worth of damage in three crashes involving two of its cars at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Colapinto, who has impressed since replacing Logan Sargeant in the team at the Dutch Grand Prix, qualified 14th in the race on Saturday evening.
