OWEN Samuda and Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) President Jodi Munn-Barrow have named the respective men’s and women’s categories for the AMG Buccaneer Memorial Golf Tournament held last weekend at the Caymanas Golf Club in St Catherine.

Samuda is on a very good run after winning the Brooklyn Open in the United States and the Caribbean Golf Association’s CGA Four-Ball Championship. He was on track to win the Senior Amateur division of the 57th Jamaica Open before missing tee time on the final day. He carded two outstanding rounds of 71-under par on each day of the tournament and posted two rounds of 142 under par to win by 13 strokes.

“After the disappointment I had at the Jamaica Open last week, I realized you can’t drive and look behind you – (because if you do) you don’t realize what’s in front of you – so I put it behind me. (I) came into this tournament with a lot of confidence and more positive thoughts in my mind.” I played really well (on both days), even better (on the second day), so I feel really good about the win,” Samuda said.

“I’m very happy with my game. I’m hitting the ball very well and my opponents even told me that after their match was over and I’m really proud of myself for coming back and winning this event.”

He was the only golfer to score below par in the tournament.

Former national champion Oshae Haye finished second with 11 points at 155 points. The other two former national champions, Zandre Roye and Sean Morris, shared third place with 14 points with 158 points in two days.

Munn-Barrow took first place in the Women’s category by posting three points over par 75 (a total of six points over par 150) each day, taking its place at the top of the women’s leaderboard as usual. Michele McCreath took second place, 21 strokes behind, with 171.

“I think it’s a little bit harder this time. I wasn’t playing because I was busy with the Jamaica Open, so my game was terrible this weekend, but I got through it. I got the ball in my hands and I’m happy with how I did it because I know I didn’t do my best, but it’s still good for two rounds.” “I’m very happy with the outcome of the two days,” Munn-Barrow said.

There were many category winners at the end of the tournament, in which more than 80 golfers participated. These included Quentin Hugh-Sam and Philip Gooden, who won the Men & Men Senior 7-12 with 168 points each; Gifford Wilmott – 157, tops Men & Men Senior 13-24; Philip Prendergast and Mike Glieckman – will compete jointly in the Men’s Super Senior 0-12 category with 151 points each; Guyan Arscott – 192nd for the Men’s Super Seniors 13-24 category. The Masters category went to Tony Gooden with 169 points. In the Other Women’s category, Women’s 13 and over went to Diane Hudson with 184 points. There were also some young people on the field. Men’s 18 and U – Davin Hogan – 175; Men’s 15 and U – Kemari Morris – 163; Boys 11-13 – Shasa Redlefsen – 159. The final category was Girls 14-15 – Alessandra Coe with 177 points.

The charity event was being held for the 29th year. It is held annually in memory of seven of Jamaica’s outstanding national representatives: Milton “Buddy” Josephs, Izette Rhone, Lenan “Lennie” Chin, John Fulford, Al Chong, Claude Stewart and former captain of the Buccaneers Golf Club, Mark Chin. .

“This tournament has been running since the 1990s, making it the oldest golf tournament outside of the Jamaica Open and Jamaica Golf Association calendar. “The majority of the proceeds from this event go to the Lawes Street Trade Training Centre,” said Buccaneers Golf Club president Peter Chin.

“We try to reach the one million dollar goal every year. This year we had difficulties due to weather conditions. “Some players, especially from outside Kingston, did not come because they were not too sure about the weather, but we will still try our best to achieve the goal.”
