Cairo Man Sentenced to Nine Years in Prison on Child Pornography Charges

ALBANY, NY – Drew Caswell, a 26-year-old resident of Cairo, New York, was sentenced to 9 years in federal prison for distributing, receiving and possessing child pornography. The sentence was announced by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman, Special Agent in Charge Craig L. Tremaroli of the FBI’s Albany Field Office, and New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James.

Caswell’s conviction stemmed from his admission during his guilty plea to using a file hosting service to download child pornography, which he then distributed by sharing it on a social media platform. Materials included in the case included nearly 300 images and videos depicting sexual abuse of minors and minors found on his cell phone on August 7, 2023.

United States District Judge Anne M. Nardacci imposed the sentence, which includes 20 years of supervised release following his incarceration. After his release, Caswell will be required to register as a sex offender.

The investigation that led to Caswell’s arrest was conducted by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force, which included several law enforcement agencies, including the New York State Police Troop F and the Computer Crimes Unit. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikayla Espinosa as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006.

Project Safe Childhood aims to increase the effectiveness of federal, state, and local efforts to combat child abuse and exploitation on the Internet. It focuses on finding and apprehending criminals and rescuing victims. You can find more details about this initiative at: justice.gov/psc.
