The Second Doctor’s final ten-part adventure, War Games, was broadcast in 1969 and ended dramatically with his forced regeneration as his image faded from the screen as he shouted ‘No’.

Now the BBC has confirmed the ‘extraordinary new colourisation’ of this Classic Who story into a 90-minute feature-length experience for modern audiences with ‘updated visual effects’.

The publisher has confirmed it will also release a ‘never-before-seen regeneration version of the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee)’ for hardcore Whovians.

Plus ‘recovered footage not seen since original broadcast’.

The brand new colorization comes a year after the BBC broadcast one of the First Doctor’s (William Hartnell) most famous adventures, The Daleks, in all-new colours, along with the introduction of the series’ iconic villain.

After witnessing Who history, fans will be able to enjoy the Doctor Who festive special, directed by Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th Doctor, on Christmas Day.

The episode titled Joy to the World will feature Bridgerton actor Nicola Coughlan and written by BBC veteran Steven Moffat.

The synopsis reads: ‘When Joy checks into a hotel in London in 2024, she opens a secret door to the Time Hotel; discovers danger, dinosaurs and the Doctor’.

‘But just in time for Christmas, a deadly plan is developing across the world.’

Steven added that the story centers around a hotel that begins using time travel to sell all the unsold nights in its rooms throughout history.

The teaser trailer released earlier this month showed this: Gatva and Coughlan are in a room together and are suddenly transported back to the dinosaurs.

Speaking to BBC South East News, the Sherlock co-creator also explained how he became involved with the upcoming special.

‘The truth is, I absolutely love doing Doctor Who Christmas because I’m a huge fan of Christmas, I absolutely love Christmas.

‘Then an email came along saying: ‘Steven, I need to move on to series two, I’ll never finish this Christmas script; ‘Can you come and write one?’

‘Don’t complete his (Russell T Davies’) script, just come in and make another one from scratch.’
