Are Marinus and Morné Kemp receiving special treatment from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)?

That’s the question being raised as the brothers are granted bail despite being convicted of raping a minor.

The Kemp brothers were convicted of rape in 2022 but have yet to spend a single day behind bars.

Why weren’t the brothers arrested?

The Kemp brothers appealed the verdict following their conviction for raping a 14-year-old girl in 2018.

Morné was sentenced to 25 years in prison and Marinus to 20 years, but they were released on bail after appealing the decision.

Pretoria on 30 October Supreme Court He rejected the objection and canceled their bail, ordering them to surrender within seven days to begin serving their sentences.

NPA explains its decision to AfriForum

AfricaForum The Special Prosecutor’s Office, representing the victim and her mother, approached the NPA when the mother could not get answers as to why the men were still outside.

AfriForum also questioned why they were not informed of the bail application even though they were on record representing the victim and her mother.

The NPA stated that no date had been set for the brothers’ bail hearing and that “they were released due to an agreement made with their legal representatives.”

South Africans question the justice system

South Africans are outraged by the decision, questioning how these men received special treatment.

“So they got fined and then went home? Ha? .”

@TambovanBiko said:

“This is the privilege we’re talking about. No one else can escape this situation. “Some people get much less sentences and are never allowed to leave the courthouse after sentencing.”
