Elmira teen faces murder charge after deadly shooting in Chemung County

ELMIRA (WBNG) — The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of an Elmira teenager on charges of murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office arrested 17-year-old Michael Williams Jr. of Elmira.

Around midnight on November 15, deputies said they responded to 1154 Richard St. in the Town of Southport, N.Y., following reports of a shooting.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered a large party was taking place, the office said. One victim, later identified as 21-year-old J’Sean Williams, was found to have multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies provided medical assistance at the scene until paramedics from Erway Ambulance arrived. Despite efforts to save him, Williams was transported to Arnot Ogden Medical Center and later died from his injuries.

The shooting investigation was turned over to the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, where more than 100 leads were evaluated, including numerous interviews and the collection of a variety of evidence.

Following the investigation, Williams Jr. was identified as the suspect, the office said. An arrest warrant was obtained from the Superior Court and further investigation led authorities to a residence in Binghamton.

The Binghamton Police Department and Broome County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested Williams Jr. without incident.

The office said the investigation is ongoing.
