Man who fell from boat towing water skier drowns in Murray River

A man has died after falling from a boat into the Murray River near Moama in New South Wales.

The 51-year-old man fell overboard when the boat stopped suddenly to help the fallen water skier.

He was pulled from the water at Perricoota Waters just after 7:30pm on Saturday evening.

The man was taken ashore and treated by paramedics but died at the scene, NSW police said in a statement.

It is not known whether he was wearing a life jacket.

The water skier who was towed escaped without injury.

Police are investigating the incident by conducting a crime scene and will prepare a report for the coroner.
