Amninder Singh, who hails from Khizrabad village in Ropar district, was declared brain dead after a traffic accident at PGIMER in Chandigarh. In an act of noble generosity, Amninder’s family decided to donate his organs, saving the lives of three people and restoring the eyesight of two others.

While Amninder’s liver was transported to AHRR, New Delhi, via a green corridor, his kidneys, pancreas and corneas were transplanted to PGIMER. While two patients at PGIMER underwent kidney and pancreas transplantation, the other two patients were given the ability to see again thanks to corneal transplantation.

Amninder met with a road accident on November 10 and was initially treated at Ropar civil hospital before being transferred to PGIMER. Despite all efforts, it was announced that brain death occurred on November 20, following the evaluations of the brainstem death committees.

PGIMER director Vivek Lal said: “This selfless act is a reminder of the life-changing impact of organ donation. Their courage in the midst of pain is truly inspiring.”

PGIMER medical chief Vipin Koushal said: “This case shows the power of collective effort. “From family consent to organ transplantation, this reflects a commitment to saving lives.”
