14-year-old teenager accused of car theft

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 14-year-old boy was arrested Shelby County Sheriff’s Office detectives say he participated in a motor vehicle theft this week.

On Friday around 8 p.m., SCSO detectives, including BRATS (Burglary, Robbery and Automobile Theft) detectives, responded to the 5800 block of Chadwell Road regarding a shooting, attempted auto theft and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

The victim saw three males in front of his home and told detectives they were trying to steal his vehicle.

After the victim left his home, the suspects ran to their vehicle and fled the scene while allegedly shooting at the victim. Neither the victim nor his property were touched.

As the suspects were leaving the area, they crashed on Raleigh-Millington Road south of Pleasant Ridge.

Many people were arrested, drugs were seized during the closure of the motel

The two teenagers who tried to escape were detained and later taken to Le Bonheur Hospital for treatment of non-critical injuries sustained in the accident.

A third suspect fled on foot and has still not been caught.

Police teams determined that the vehicle used by the suspects had been stolen in the same neighborhood before this incident.

A 14-year-old juvenile was charged with evading arrest in an automobile, theft of a motor vehicle and theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000.

SCSO detectives say this is an ongoing investigation and more arrests and charges are imminent.
