Tributes pour in for two friends killed in horror crash in Donegal

A memorial service is being held for two friends who were fatally injured in a two-vehicle collision in Donegal.

Ryan Glenn and Gordy Galbraith, aged 30, were pronounced dead at the scene after the car they were driving collided with another car in the village of Liscooley.

The horror crash happened at around 10pm on the N15 near Castlefinn, Co Donegal.

ACCIDENT

Gardai Emergency and emergency services attended the scene of the two men from Castlederg, Co Tyrone. declared dead.

The Kia Sportage had three passengers; A man and woman, both in their 70s, were taken to Letterkenny Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, while another woman in her 30s was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí confirmed that the Donegal road was closed for a period of time on Saturday morning, pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

They appealed to any road users who had camera footage, including dashcam, and who were traveling in the area at the time of the collision.

Following the passing of Tyrone friends Ryan and Gordy, tributes began pouring in on social media.

Maolíosa McHugh, Sinn Féin MLA in the West Tyrone constituency, said there was ‘shock at the deaths’ following the tragedy.

Mr McHugh said: ‘People in the area were devastated to wake up to this tragic news this morning.

‘I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the families of Gordy Galbraith and Ryan Glenn who are devastated as a result of this tragedy.

‘My thoughts and prayers are with the three injured people and I hope they make a full recovery.’

The Sinn Féin politician added his praise to the emergency services who attended and assisted at the crash.

Dergview FC said: ‘The Club would like to extend its deepest condolences to the Galbraith family on the tragic death of Gordy and to the Glenn family on the death of Ryan.

‘Gordy was a former player for the club at both youth and senior levels and his two sons currently play in our Youth Academy.

‘Our thoughts and prayers are with the others involved in the crash.’

The Pride of the Derg Flute Band in Castlederg also paid tribute.

‘Gordy was a former member of the band and a staunch supporter since its inception in 2004… the picture below shows Gordy leading the band in our first parade on Lundy day in Londonderry 20 years ago. “Next years,” they said.

They added that the late Gordy, a father of two, had ‘limitless’ musical talents and could play the flute, harmonica and sing.

‘As we head to this year’s Lundy parade we will keep Gordy in our thoughts and prayers as he was the first person to book a seat on the bus when he heard the band were returning to Londonderry after 20 years.’
