Ithaca man faces multiple charges after fleeing police

A 45-year-old Ithaca man is facing multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from police during an arrest attempt Friday night.

Police attempted to arrest Ruben M. Flowers on Floral Boulevard around 9 p.m. He was wanted on an active warrant for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a Class D felony.

Officers said Flowers refused to comply with orders and fled the scene in a vehicle. An ensuing pursuit ended with Flowers abandoning his car in front of a housing complex. The police caught him soon after.

In addition to the charges stemming from the arrest warrant, Flowers is also charged with Unlawful Evasion of a Police Officer with a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, Resisting Arrest and two counts of Reckless Driving. He also faces multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

After his arrest, Flowers was taken to the Tompkins County Public Safety Building. The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office assisted Ithaca police during the incident.
