Honoring His Memory: Dedicates World Chabad convention to slain Rabbi

Chabad is preparing for its annual representative meeting, which will be held under heavy security in New York this weekend because of the war in Israel and the killing of Chabad’s ambassador to Abu Dhabi, Rabbi Zvi Kogen, by a hit squad sent by Iran.

A Chabad source said Chabad plans to devote a significant portion of the conference content to Rabbi Kogan’s memory Arutz Sheva – Israel National News.

The congress is held annually on the Shabbat weekend of Kislev with the participation of approximately 6,000 Chabad emissaries from around the world.

This year’s convention would focus on two events: first, the war raging in Israel and affecting Chabad houses around the world, and second, the 50th anniversary of the Rebbe’s declaration of “Mitzvah Campaigns,” that is, to promote Chabad activities. Obeying the Ten Commandments and basic rules such as Torah study, wearing tefillin, and charity.

In light of Rabbi Kogan’s murder, a portion of the convention will be devoted to the security of Chabad houses and Chabad emissaries, as well as to the memory of Rabbi Kogan. A Chabad source said the security issue was a generally discussed issue in the Chabad community, but following the murder, envoys would take the issue more seriously.

Rabbi Kogan was killed by Uzbeks on the orders of Iran. The Israeli mission in Abu Dhabi has been in contact with the family from the beginning of the incident and continues to accompany them in their time of need. His family in Israel was also informed.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “The murder of Zvi Kogan is a disgusting act of anti-Semitic terrorism. The State of Israel will take action in every way and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Kogan is one of the assistants of Rabbi Levi Duchman, chief rabbi of the UAE Jewish community. His family said he last contacted them on Wednesday and that, according to Mossad, he was last seen in Dubai around noon on Thursday.
