Man shot in Birmingham neighborhood dies in hospital

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.(WBRC) – The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after a man was fatally shot Thursday evening.

Police were dispatched to a Shot Spotter alert in the 300 block of 25th Street Southwest around 6:46 p.m., authorities said.

Police teams arriving at the scene found a person lying motionless on the side of the road. He was transported to UAB Hospital and died from his injuries Friday evening.

Police identified the victim as 22-year-old DeCarlos Perez Smith Jr. determined as.

At this time, details of the investigation are limited and there is no one in custody.
