Senator-Elect Adam Schiff: Trump’s Federal and State Lawsuits Should Be Delayed, Not Dismissed

On Sunday’s “Meet the Press,” Donald Trump’s longtime nemesis and California Senator-elect Adam Schiff said Trump’s federal and state lawsuits should not be dismissed.

Trump faces state charges in New York in so-called “hush money” case; where he received 34 guilty verdicts on charges of falsifying business records. He also faces federal charges for possession of secret documents and election interference.

There have been calls among Trump supporters to dismiss the charges to avoid clouds forming over the president’s tenure.

“Meet the Press host Kristen Welker asked Schiff if he thought the lawsuits should be dismissed.

“I don’t. “I think the sentencing and other proceedings in the New York case should be postponed until he leaves office,” Schiff said. “Likewise, I think the other hearings in the two federal cases should be postponed until he leaves office. However, they should not be dismissed. A jury of Donald Trump’s peers found him guilty. “He is no less guilty because he won the election.”

Schiff said two grand juries found probable cause to believe Trump committed a federal crime. “These cases should not disappear just because he was elected. The presidency is not a get-out-of-jail-free card. “Instead, they should postpone further action until he leaves office.”

Schiff also addressed Trump’s comments about the Senator-elect’s character.

Trump has previously said his political enemies can be dealt with, calling them “enemies from within.” Then he added: “But what’s harder to deal with are the crazy ones among us, like Adam Schiff. Adam “Sly” Schiff.”

Schiff was asked if he felt targeted.

“Well, that’s dictator talk. That’s how autocrats talk. They want to turn their political opposition into enemies and describe them in this way. But look, I’m not worried about myself. I will do my job. “I won’t let his threats stop me from doing this.”
