20-year-old arrested for throwing iron rods on railway tracks | Mumbai news

GRP arrested Abdul Kadir Shaikh for endangering the lives of commuters by throwing a 15-foot iron bar on railway tracks in an attempt to sell drugs.

MUMBAI: The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a man on Saturday for allegedly throwing a 15-metre iron rod on railway tracks on Thursday night. GRP officers said the suspect was a drug addict and stole the iron bar to sell and buy drugs, but when passersby noticed him, he threw it away and ran away.

Yogesh Kumar, who worked as a train driver on the Goregaon-CSTM local train on the harbor line, was working between Santacruz and Khar Road railway stations on November 21 when his train hit an iron rod at 8.30 pm. To avoid an accident, he immediately stopped the train and alerted the station master, who called the Railway Police Force (RPF). After searching the tracks, RPF officers found no other suspicious objects apart from the stick. The next day, RPF sub-inspector Sapna Sharma lodged a complaint with the Bandra GRP after an unidentified person threw iron rods on the tracks, endangering the lives of commuters.

Bandra GRP first registered an FIR against an unknown person under section 152 (causing harm or attempting to harm persons traveling by rail) and also 125(a) (endangering life or personal safety of others), 126(2) of the Railway Act . ) (unjust restraint) and Article 329(3) (criminal trespass) of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Based on CCTV footage from the area, GRP located the accused Abdul Kadir Samatbrez Shaikh, an addict living in a slum in Khar (West). According to GRP, Shaikh stole the iron bar from a scrap dealer on Thursday night with the intention of selling it to buy drugs. When passersby noticed him, he threw the stick on the road and ran away.
