Max Verstappen’s girlfriend says ‘no’ to post-F1 plans | F1 | Sport

Max Verstappen saw his post-retirement plans to indulge without a care in the world quickly rejected by girlfriend Kelly Piquet. The Dutchman could leave F1 sooner than many expect.

Even though he is only 27 years old and has a contract Red Bull Verstappen has no intention of racing until 2028, when he is in his late 30s. He also refused to commit to his future with the team beyond next season.

He has promised that if he signs a new deal from now on, it will be his last in the sport. For Verstappen, the temptation to leave the strict diet behind is strong, especially since he will no longer have to watch his weight as much as he does now.

This was made clear during the filming of Viaplay’s documentary Max Verstappen: Anatomy of a Champion, released in the UK today via Amazon Prime. Both he and Piquet were attending a ceremony in September 2022 where he was appointed Officer of the Order of the Chamber of Nassau, one of the highest honors in his native Netherlands.

When asked if they had a nice holiday after that year’s summer break, Piquet replied: “Yes.” Verstappen was then asked if he had gained weight. He replied: “Yes, I gained three, three and a half kilos again. But I lost it in a week.”

The interviewer joked: “I’m afraid things don’t work that way anymore after 40.” Verstappen admitted: “Ah, but when I’m 40 I won’t race anymore. So I can eat what I want.”

Piquet did not agree with this suggestion at all and replied decisively: “No, no, no.” Verstappen, looking quite docile, replied: “No? I’ll look like a sausage roll.”

Piquet just laughed and said again: “No.” Verstappen’s suggestion to swap Formula 1 cars for motorcycles also surprised Piquet. When asked about his own bike, he explained: “It’s still in the Netherlands.”

Intrigued, Piquet interrupted him and asked: “Which bike?” Verstappen explained: “My Harley (Davidson).” He continued: “Do you have a Harley? What for?” He said before explaining: “Yes, that’s exactly it. It would be nice to put it in the living room.”

“Maybe in a few years it will be better, I will have time to ride my fat belly on the tank, you know?” I ask Piquet to joke: “You could join Monaco’s Hells Angels.”

Max Verstappen: Anatomy of a Champion will be available to watch on Viaplay via Amazon Prime starting November 25
