Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur police arrested five people for possession of deer skins and antlers

Five people were arrested by Andhra Pradesh’s Uravakonda Rural Police for possession of deer skins and antlers, marking a significant decline in wildlife crimes. The arrests took place Saturday evening under the supervision of a department inspector, following an operation targeting illegal wildlife trade.

The arrested persons, identified as Shikari Devaraju, Shikari Govindu, Shikari Babu, Vadde Chinna Payzi (also known as Peda Anji) and Shikari Balraju, were caught with 24 deer skins and two deer antlers in their possession. Police said the suspects admitted that they had been hunting deer for more than a year and selling their skins and antlers.

Authorities seized the illegal items and charged the accused under relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. After their arrest, the defendants were sent to judicial custody.

Police have intensified efforts to combat wildlife trafficking in the region to counter such illegal activities.
