Interstate 84 between Twin Falls and Jerome closed due to accident

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Interstate 84 between Jerome and Twin Falls is closed due to a major crash.

All eastbound and westbound lanes are closed between Exit 168 and Exit 173, according to the Idaho Department of Transportation website.

According to Idaho State Police, a semi-truck experienced vehicle failure while traveling westbound on Interstate 84 around 2 p.m. The pickup truck then crashed into the middle barrier of the highway.

The truck then pushed the center barrier into the eastbound lanes, hitting eastbound cars, according to police. Then the truck rolled onto its side and caught fire. The driver managed to escape from the burning truck.

It took firefighters about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze, according to the Jerome Rural Fire District. Several people were injured and Idaho State Police said there were no deaths.

According to Idaho State Police, officers are directing eastbound traffic onto Golf Course Road. Officers are directing westbound traffic to North U.S. Highway 93 and westbound to Idaho Route 25. Idaho State Police encouraged drivers to avoid the area.

Idaho State Police are currently investigating the incident.
