Preliminary investigation suggests murder-suicide in north Laredo apartment shooting

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – The Laredo Police Department is releasing additional details about a shooting at a north Laredo apartment complex, including a possible identification.

Officers responded to a reported disturbance involving a person with a gun in the 7600 block of Laguna Del Mar Court around 8:30 Sunday night.

At the scene, officers found the open door of one of the apartments and found two women with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Medical teams arriving at the scene determined that one of the women had died, while the other woman had died in the hospital where she was taken.

According to the Laredo Police Department, preliminary investigation into the incident leads them to believe the case likely points to a murder-suicide.

According to Jose Espinoza of the Laredo Police, “This case will be a murder-suicide. These women were relatives because they were grandmothers and grandchildren. “These people were determined to be a 74-year-old woman and a 24-year-old woman.”

This marks Laredo’s 6th homicide of the year and the investigation is ongoing.

The Laredo Police Department is alerting the community to an active death in north Laredo.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. Sunday at an apartment complex in the 7600 block of Laguna Del Mar Court, an active crime scene.

We were told two victims were hospitalized with gunshot wounds, but officers updated the case to an active death investigation around 9:30 p.m.

They want people to stay away from the area.
