Detroit Lions Jameson Williams will not face concealed weapons charges

Detroit Lions Wide receiver Jameson Williams will not face any concealed weapons charges stemming from the October traffic stop and subsequent investigation, according to a statement from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

This comes from an incident that occurred when Williams and his brother were involved in a traffic stop in Detroit on October 8th. Williams was handcuffed when two guns were found in the car, one under Williams’ seat and the other in the backseat. He did not have a CPL license.

Williams was eventually released from police custody. An investigation was subsequently launched to determine whether the Lions’ wide receiver received preferential treatment. It was announced Monday that he would not face charges.

“We reviewed this case thoroughly and objectively. In our decision-making process, we did not take into account the fact that Mr. Williams is a professional athlete from Detroit,” prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement. “We have indicted Detroit area athletes before and would not hesitate to do so again if the facts of this case could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. When it comes to charging decisions, we do not take into account who the potential defendant is. We rely solely on the facts and the law as to how much power and influence they have or how well-liked they are.” We are interested.”

Williams’ brother, who was driving the car, has a CPL, and the guns in the car were determined to be in proper care, according to Worthy. Going forward, Worthy said guidance will be needed to determine how many weapons a CPL holder can have control over.

If Williams had been carrying the gun, he would have faced charges, Worthy wrote.

Williams had a breakout season on the field, catching 29 passes for 602 yards and four touchdowns. All three figures are career-best marks for the third-year who played a vital role in the Lions’ 10-1 start to the 2024 season.
