While a man in his 30s was struggling to survive after a ‘corrosive substance’ attack in the seaside city centre, 3 men and 2 women were arrested

Police said a man in his 30s was fighting for his life after a corrosive substance was thrown at him in the attack in the seaside town.

Cops have arrested five people as they investigate the horrific serious attack. Paignton, DevonThis left the victim in a critical situation and facing potentially life-changing injuries.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they received reports that two men approached the victim and threw chemicals at him in the Victoria Street area at around 1.10am last Thursday morning.

Five people were arrested in connection with the attack as police increased their presence in the area and continued their investigation.

A 46-year-old man from Paignton was arrested on suspicion of administering a corrosive liquid with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

A man and a woman, both aged 44 and from Paignton, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

A 43-year-old woman from Paignton was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.

A 22-year-old man from Paignton was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

It is believed that everyone involved knew each other.

They were all released on police bail pending further investigation.
