Results of Kentucky's 1st medical marijuana dispensary license lottery announced

FRANKFORT, Ky. (KFVS) – The results of the first of two licensing lotteries for medical marijuana dispensaries in Kentucky were announced Monday.

According to a statement from Governor Andy Beshear’s office, 36 applicants were selected to receive medical marijuana dispensary licenses through a random number generator.

“The Kentucky Office of Medical Marijuana received 4,998 applications, including 4,075 dispensary applications,” said Sam Flynn, executive director of the Kentucky Office of Medical Marijuana. “Candidates selected in today’s license lottery will have 15 days to pay their license fees. “After the fee is paid, the office will issue a license to that business.”

The drawing was held on November 25 at the Kentucky Lottery Corporation in Louisville. The event drew four people from each of the following dispensary locations:

Region 3: NortheastConsists of: Bath, Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Greenup, Lewis, Mason, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Nicholas, Robertson and Rowan counties.
Region 4: South CentralConsists of: Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson and Warren counties.
District 5: CumberlandConsists of Bell, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Harlan, Knox, Laurel, Lincoln, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell, Wayne and Whitley counties.
Region 6: MountainConsists of: Breathitt, Clay, Estill, Floyd, Jackson, Johnson, Knott, Lawrence, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Martin, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Powell and Wolfe counties.
Zone 7: Pennyrile: Consists of Caldwell, Christian, Hopkins, Lyon, Muhlenberg, Todd and Trigg counties.
Region 8: Western Kentucky: It consists of Ballard, Calloway, Carlisle, Crittenden, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Livingston, McCracken and Marshall counties.
District 9: Lincoln Road: It consists of Adair, Breckinridge, Grayson, Green, Hardin, Hart, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, Taylor and Washington counties.
Region 10: Northern KentuckyConsists of Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen and Pendleton counties.
District 11: Green River: Consists of Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio, Union and Webster counties.

According to Flynn, the second license lottery will take place on December 16. The regions that will be filmed on that date are as follows:

Zone 1: blue grass: Fayette County only
Zone 2: kentuckiana: Jefferson County only
