Police cruiser catches fire amid series of crashes on I-185

COLUMBUS, GA. (WTVM) – Columbus police are investigating a series of crashes that occurred Tuesday afternoon and led to lane closures and significant delays on Interstate 185.

Authorities were first notified of a northbound crash near Saint Mary’s around 4 p.m. While officers were at the scene, authorities said another vehicle collided with a police cruiser, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

According to police, additional wrecks unrelated to the initial crash occurred, resulting in one person being injured and transported to a local hospital.

All lanes of the interstate were later reopened.
