MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday that it has not yet received any concrete leads that could identify the person who allegedly ordered the death of Vice President Sara Duterte to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..

Police Brigadier General, director of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). General Nicolas Torre made this statement after telling journalists that they had begun assisting the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in investigating the person’s identity.

“We are looking into things but there is nothing concrete so far,” Torre told Filipino reporters during a chance interview.

He later refused to provide further information because the investigation was still ongoing.

However, Torre assured the public that the NBI and PNP-CIDG had already taken “concrete steps” in the investigation.

“We are conducting a joint investigation, but as of yesterday, concrete steps have been taken by the NBI under the Department of Justice (Department of Justice),” Torre said in a mixture of Filipino and English.

“So I believe we will submit to the auspices of the NBI. We will give them additional inputs if they need it,” he added in a mix of Filipino and English.

According to Torre, PNP-CIDG’s role in the investigation is to provide assistance and other information that may assist the NBI in the case.

On Saturday, Duterte claimed that he had hired someone to kill Marcos, his wife Liza and his cousin, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, if he was killed.

Malacañang labeled it an “active threat” in a previous statement.

The NBI then issued a subpoena to explain its side against the Vice President while the agency investigated the alleged murder plot.

Meanwhile, the Justice Department said Duterte’s threat against the life of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. demonstrated Duterte’s “lack of legal and judicial remedies,” which “exposed” him to criminal liability.
