Former MP Jakob sent to prison in murder case

A court here today sent former Bhola-4 MP Abdullah Al Islam Jakob to jail in a case filed over the murder of one Shamim Hawlader in the capital’s Rupnagar area during the July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Md Zunaid approved the decision after the police produced the former MP in court after the expiration of his three-day remand in the case and requested that he be kept behind bars.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Imran Ahammed’s court on November 20 sentenced Jakob to three days’ imprisonment in the case.

Abdullah Al Islam Jakob was arrested in the capital’s Gulshan district on October 1.

Shamim Hawlader was shot at Probeshika junction area under Rupnagar Police Station in the capital on July 20. He died from his injuries in the hospital. Shamim’s cousin Samrat later filed a lawsuit in this regard.
