Canadian rapper Drake has taken legal action against Universal Music Group (UMG) and popular music streaming platform Spotify.

Why is Drake taking legal action?

Drake petitioned Against Kendrick’s diss track Not Like Usalleging unethical practices that unfairly increased the song’s reach and popularity.

Drizzy’s legal claims include claims that UMG fired employees who were supposedly loyal to him, which Drizzy describes as a calculated move to track down Kendrick.

There’s also an accusation against Apple’s Siri, alleging that the software was manipulated to direct fans searching for Drake’s album Certified Lover Boy to Kendrick’s single Not Like Us.

However, UMG has responded to Drake’s claims.

In a statement to Variety, their representatives said:The company dismissed Drake’s accusations as unfounded.

“The claim that UMG would do anything to undermine any of its artists is offensive and untrue. We use the highest ethical practices in our marketing and promotional campaigns. No amount of fabricated and absurd legal arguments in this pre-litigation presentation can mask that fact. Fans choose the music they want to hear.”

The two rappers have long been embroiled in a highly publicized industry feud marked by subtle twists on their music and competitive exchanges. This latest development further fuels the already heated competition.

The lawsuit was filed just days after the release of Kendrick Lamar’s album GNX.
