Supermarkets and off-licences pull Conor McGregor’s products from shelves amid civil rape cases

Supermarket chains and unlicensed products across the country decided to abolish Conor McGregor Following his loss of a civil rape case in the High Court, Proper No Twelve whiskey and Forged Irish Stout were taken off shelves.

On Friday, November 22, a jury found that McGregor assaulted Nikita Hand at a Dublin hotel in 2018, which McGregor denied. The verdict resulted in Hand being awarded €248,603 in damages.

Following the decision of the Supreme Court, Rape Crisis Network Ireland has asked retailers to pull all alcohol products linked to McGregor from their shelves.

Forged Irish Stout was founded by McGregor in 2020 and is sold in some unlicensed stores, supermarkets and pubs. Proper No Twelve whiskey was also created by McGregor and he continues to promote it despite selling the brand in 2021.

Major supermarket chains including Tesco, Supervalu and Centra have responded to the debate.

Supervalu and Centra, part of the Musgrave network, have withdrawn all products linked to the MMA fighter.

In the statement made by the supermarket chain Tesco, the following statements were made: “We can confirm that we have removed Proper No Twelve from sale in Tesco stores and online. Tesco does not stock Hammered Irish Stout.”

In addition, the Costcutter and Carry Out license owned by the Barry Group also removed McGregor’s stouts and whiskeys from circulation.

The widespread controversy surrounding Conor McGregor since he lost his civil rape case has been far-reaching.

On Monday, IO Interactive, developer of the ‘Hitman’ video game, confirmed that it had removed content featuring McGregor in light of the Supreme Court decision.

There are also calls online for a boycott of McGregor’s social media in order to prevent his followers from financially supporting him.
