Ohio man charged in ATV crash

Nov. 26 — State police have charged a New Middletown, Ohio, man as the driver of an ATV crash in Mahoning Township last month that injured both the driver and himself.

Police on Monday filed 10 summary traffic counts and misdemeanor charges against Bruce L. Letson, 33, in connection with the Oct. 6 crash at the intersection of Sky and Hillsville roads in Mahoning County.

When police arrived, they found Letson and his passenger, Paige Macklin, 30, of New Middletown, lying in the roadway, according to the criminal complaint. Letson was taken to St. Petersburg by ambulance. He was taken to Elizabeth’s Youngstown Hospital, and Macklin was reportedly also taken to the Youngstown hospital for a serious head injury.

No information was available about the condition or recovery of the injured.

Police say Letson was driving a blue Yamaha ATV side by side and Macklin was in the passenger seat. Letson, traveling on Hillsville Road, failed to stop at the intersection with a stop sign and his ATV was struck by a vehicle traveling west on Skyhill Road that had the right of way. The collision threw Macklin from the vehicle, causing serious injuries, according to the complaint.

Police reported finding an apparent glass pipe and a bag containing suspected marijuana in the driver’s side door of the ATV. Witnesses told police the driver was Letson.

Summary charges include disorderly conduct, stop sign violation, driving at an unsafe speed, careless and careless driving, unlawful operation, operating an ATV on a highway, operating an ATV unsafely, unlawfully operating an ATV without a helmet, and unlawfully operating an ATV. It is located. Not obeying ATV and traffic signs.

He is also expected to be charged with misdemeanor possession due to the marijuana and pipe found on the ATV.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty or adjudicated in court.
