Memorial ceremony held for mother, baby died in shooting attack in Hartford

HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – Mothers United Against Violence is holding a memorial service in memory of the mother and baby killed in the Hartford shooting.

Jessiah Mercado, 20, and her 4-month-old son, Messiah Diaz, both of Springfield, MA. They were killed in a drive-by shooting earlier this month.

The suspect is 23-year-old Lance Morales. He was captured in Puerto Rico on Saturday.

He is charged with possession of a firearm, first-degree assault, attempted first-degree assault, two counts of murder and special circumstances murder.

The vigil will be held at 6 p.m. at 380 New Britain Avenue, Hartford.
