“Therefore, a dismissed citation does not mean that the citation has no merit,” the police statement said. It was stated that the quotes “do not constitute a crime”.

Reacting to the news, Hill shared the following on X: “Where are all the internet police now?”

Hill’s attorneys told ESPN that the “absence” of the officers involved “is evidence of their knowledge of wrongdoing.”

Lawyers said “Mr Hill had the right to have his day in court” and called for officers to be “disciplined” for not attending.

Police spokesman Andre Martin denied that the officer was told by his superiors not to attend the hearing and said many other cases were also dismissed for absenteeism.

Detective Martin told the BBC that Constable Batista “either forgot or was doing something else related to his duty and therefore prevented him from participating.”

Detective Martin said that an administrative investigation is being carried out regarding failure to appear at the hearing.

The results of a separate internal affairs investigation launched after the body camera footage was released have not yet been shared.

The traffic stop occurred hours before Hill’s first game of the season, a few blocks from the Dolphin’s home field, Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Body camera footage shows Hill being harsh with police at times, telling one officer “don’t knock on my window like that.”

Hill rolled down his window to talk to police, then folded it down, prompting an officer to tell him to lower the window again.

After a few seconds, the officer said: “Actually, get out of the car.”

There were many police officers at the scene. Hill was removed from his car by two men and placed face down on the pavement. A police officer then knelt on his back to restrain and handcuff him.

He and two of his detained teammates were released and continued playing that night against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Dolphins won that game, and Hill scored a touchdown and celebrated by pretending to be handcuffed with his teammates.
