Montreal murder suspect repatriated from France to face charges

A 26-year-old man charged in connection with a murder that occurred in Montreal last year was extradited back to Canada on Monday, Montreal police said.

The suspect is charged with aggravated assault and manslaughter in connection with the fatal attack that occurred in the parking lot of a restaurant in the Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough on May 31, 2023.

The suspect was arrested in France last spring following an international manhunt involving the Montreal police’s major crimes unit and French authorities.

After extradition procedures were completed, the suspect was extradited to Canada on Monday and appeared in court in Montreal.

According to Montreal police, the incident began with a verbal argument in the parking lot on Décarie Boulevard. restaurant. Police said a 50-year-old man was attacked and left unconscious on the ground. He died in hospital two days later.

A second suspect, 24, was arrested the day after the attack and faces similar charges.

Police continue their investigation.
