Pappu Yadav, an independent MP from Bihar’s Purnia district, received a death threat allegedly from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The anonymous caller claimed to be a member of the notorious gang and threatened Yadav to stay away from matters related to Bollywood actor Salman Khan.

The caller claimed to have been closely monitoring Yadav’s movements and instructed him not to testify against Lawrence Bishnoi, a gangster currently lodged in Sabarmati Jail. The call came from a UAE number and its recording was sent to senior police officials, including the Bihar DGP.

Lawrence Bishnoi’s name came to the fore recently when one of his gang members claimed responsibility for the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique. In an unverified social media post, the gang member cited Siddique’s “close friendship” with Salman Khan as the reason for his murder.

In response to Siddique’s murder, Yadav had openly challenged Bishnoi and said that if allowed he would ‘dismantle the entire network of a cheap criminal like Lawrence Bishnoi within 24 hours’.

Yadav Demands ‘Category Z’ Security

After informing Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) about the ‘death threat’, Yadav sent a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah requesting that his security be upgraded from ‘Y category’ to ‘Z category’.

“I was threatened on behalf of Lawrence. A complaint regarding this has been lodged with the DGP and IG of Bihar. I also shared the issue with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Repeated threats hurt me because all kinds of negative things could happen to me. In the letter, Rajesh Ranjan aka Pappu Yadav wrote that the government should be serious about my safety.

According to a press release issued by Purnia MP on Monday, Yadav also demanded that an escort be provided in every district of Bihar and called for special security arrangements to be made at any event or public gathering.

Pappu Yadav Meets Baba Siddique’s Son

The Independent MP from Bihar went to Mumbai on October 24 and met Baba Siddique’s son Zeeshan Siddique. He also stated that he wanted to meet actor Salman Khan but could not do so due to the actor’s busy schedule.

Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister and a senior leader of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, was killed after being shot by three persons in Bandra East, Mumbai, on the evening of October 12. While the police detained many people related to the incident, it was stated that the investigation continues to catch the planner.
