Ebenezer Scrooge’s shattered tombstone will be repaired

Ms Ball added that the town was “overwhelmed” and “humbled” by the support not only locally but from around the world.

He said several people had contacted the city council offering financial support to help repair the damage.

The film’s producer’s son also got in touch to tell us how proud his late father was that the stone remained at St Chad’s and how upset he would have been to hear about the damage.

Ms Ball said there was “light at the end of the tunnel” as repair work began.

He said they expected that the media attention in the last few days would mean more people would want to see the tombstone once it was repaired.
